"The Epic of Yerffej" is the story of a Warrior who reincarnates over millennia, learning life's lessons through the vehicle of the drum.
It is Yerffej's story. It is the story of the everyman.
And it is the fully realized marriage of theatre and percussion.
Fate, free will, and the existence of the Other are called into question throughout Yerffej's lifetimes. We see him change from a loincloth wearing savage, to a revolutionary soldier, to a rock n roll star, to a homeless guru.
He comes to work with the Creator as an Assister to humankind, but tragedy ensues when he learns the truth about his Other.
The Epic of Yerffej: An Overview
The score has been performed live, all of the scenes have been workshopped/performed numerous times, and the full show has been produced at its barest - with a cast of 20, on a budget of just $20,000.
The Epic of Yerffej is indeed an Epic. Though it's roots literally are trash, the fully-realized Epic is a gigantic production, best suited for the world's largest opera houses, with a cast of 75, world-class actors and musicians in the principal roles, and a musical/percussive spectrum covering everything from tin cans to timpanis, from tuba to tap, from war drums to rock n' roll to electronica.
The score, script, and production specs are undergoing their final polish.
The Epic of Yerffej is ready to be Produced by those who see its unlimited potential for massive mainstream success, and who are capable of producing it in its intended scope.
A treatment is also in development for a film version of The Epic of Yerffej.
